International Association of Privacy Professionals Announces New 2015 Board Members

Peter Hustinx, former European Data Protection Supervisor, GE’s Peter Lefkowitz, and former DHS chief privacy officer Mary Ellen Callahan join IAPP Board of Directors.

Portsmouth, NH – February 18, 2015 – Today the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) announced the new members joining its board of directors. Former chief privacy officer of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Mary Ellen Callahan, CIPP/US, former European Data Protection Supervisor Peter Hustinx, and Peter Lefkowitz, CIPP/US, chief privacy officer, General Electric, begin board terms in 2015.

  • Mary Ellen Callahan, CIPP/US, is a nationally recognized privacy attorney and the founder and chair of Jenner & Block’s Privacy and Information Governance Practice. She is also the longest-serving former chief privacy officer of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and has broad experience with the interface of the protection of privacy, civil rights and civil liberties with cybersecurity and national security issues. Additionally, she is a recipient of the 2013 IAPP Vanguard Award.
  • Peter Hustinx was appointed European data protection supervisor in 2004 and reappointed for a second term in 2009. As the EDPS, he was closely involved in the development of data protection legislation from the start, both at national and international levels. Hustinx has also previously served as president of the Dutch Data Protection Authority and chairman of the Article 29 Working Party.
  • Peter Lefkowitz, CIPP/US, is chief privacy officer for General Electric, where he is responsible for the development and implementation of GE’s data protection policies and practices globally. Lefkowitz is deeply engaged in development of standards for GE’s Industrial Internet programs, as well as the public policy implications of the internet of things, big data and other innovative technologies. Prior to joining GE, he was vice president of privacy & security legal and chief privacy officer at Oracle Corporation.
