The Certification Advisory Board is vital to IAPP certification programs, serving as the connection between our staff and credential holders.
Meet the Certification Advisory Board
CERTIFICATION ADVISORY BOARD EXPECTATIONS
- Serve a three year term.
- Maintain an active IAPP membership.
- Attend and participate in scheduled meetings and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Keep information shared among advisory board members confidential.
- Act with integrity and professionalism in advisory board duties.
- Advocate for the IAPP.
- Attend meetings, serve on committees, or in roles as requested by the chair and IAPP staff.
- Monitor, revise and approve the Certification Policies and Procedures Manual and related controlled documents.
- Approve eligibility criteria, certification scope, examinations, examination scaled cut points, item performance standards, and other essential certification decisions.
- Assure the independence of certifications from conflicting interests, including but not limited to training, education accreditation and marketing functions.
Selection Criteria
Boards are selected with the goal of creating a balanced working group based on experience level, industry sector, geographic location and area of expertise. Considerations for selection include:
- Required to hold a CIPP, CIPM and/or CIPT credential in good standing (maintained throughout term).
- Professional experience and knowledge of privacy and data protection laws, regulations, policies, procedures, best practices and theory.
- Length of membership plus commitment to and involvement with the IAPP.
- Past service on an Exam Development Board. (Helpful, but not required.)
- Knowledge of accreditation. (Helpful, but not required.)
- Cannot serve on both the CAB and any of the following boards at the same time: IAPP training faculty, Appeals Advisory Board or Exam Development Board.
- Please note:
- IAPP advisory board members are not agents or employees of the IAPP and cannot act on IAPP’s behalf or enter into any binding agreements.
- As an advisory board member, your decisions, actions and opinions speak about you as an IAPP volunteer, and not solely as a member or privacy professional.
