The importance of becoming a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) received a prominent nod in late July when the newly appointed Chief Privacy Officer for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in one of his first interviews that he would take the exam the next time it is offered in Washington, D.C.
Hugo Teufel, the new DHS Chief Privacy Officer, told a GovExec.com reporter that he planned to sit for the CIPP test. The reporter, Daniel Pulliam, noted in his article that a CIPP credential is a "certification demonstrating the mastery of a standard body of knowledge relating to privacy law."
The next certification testing events are scheduled for Sept. 29 at the 13th National HIPAA Summit, held at the Renaissance Washington D.C. Hotel, 999 Ninth St. NW, and Oct. 20 at the IAPP Privacy Academy at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto, Ontario.
Privacy experts recently told The Privacy Advisor that Teufel's comments reflected a growing awareness about the prominence of the IAPP's privacy certification program in the marketplace.
