Several IAPP members were included in Computerworld's 2008 rankings of the best privacy advisers. The New York-based law firm Hunton & Williams took top honors. The results are based on a survey of 2,000 data protection officers.

Firms in the top five include: Hunton & Williams, Venable, Baker & McKenzie, Morrison & Foerster, and Kelley Drye & Warren, LLP

Hunton & Williams‘ Lisa Sotto received the most votes for "top global privacy expert" honors, followed by Venable‘s Stu Ingis, Hunton & Williams‘ Christopher Kuner, Rebecca Herold, CIPP, of Rebecca Herold & Associates, and D. Reed Freeman, CIPP, of Kelley Drye & Warren, LLP.

The survey also found that, despite the down economy, spending on privacy is up. Thirty-one percent of companies plan to increase their 2009 budgets for outside privacy advice.
