Privacy filters for whole body imaging
Ontario Information and Privacy Commissioner Ann Cavoukian has released a whitepaper on privacy filters for Whole Body Imaging (WBI) technologies. WBI technologies are being deployed in airport security scanners worldwide and, although their use is voluntary, have become controversial  due to the naked images of passengers produced by the scanners.

In the paper, Commissioner Cavoukian discusses how the privacy-invasive method can be mitigated through the use of a “privacy filter.”

“[WBI] technologies which incorporate privacy filters render bodily images to mere outlines and have great potential to provide privacy-protective security,” she said. “This is how WBI can rise above its negative privacy connotations and become a transformative technology, delivering both security and privacy.”
