A top official has stated that Hong Kong and Shenzhen residents who use the smart card payment system when it is introduced later this year have no reason to worry about their privacy, Computerworld Hong Kong reports. KC Chan, secretary for financial services and the treasury, told the Legislative Council last week that smart card readers will "only capture transaction-related information, including the date and time of the transaction, the identity of the relevant service provider, the transaction value, the remaining balance on the card and the card number." According to Chan, as no personal data are involved in the process, "personal data won't be leaked through cross-boundary card readers."
