A phishing attack on the international carbon market temporarily halted emissions trading in a number of EU countries this week. The BBC reports that an estimated 250,000 permits worth more than €3 million were stolen. It is believed the perpetrators created fake emissions registries to carry out the theft. Six German companies fell victim to the scheme, handing over emissions permit registration details to the thieves. The EU Commission may get involved in the forthcoming investigations, the report states.
