At the Online Safety and Technology Working Group meeting in Washington, DC last week, an attorney from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said that FBI Director Robert Mueller supports the storing of Internet users' "origin and destination information," and that the bureau is asking Internet service providers to begin keeping logs, reports CNET News. The bureau wants the logs retained for a period of two years so they will be available for investigations of serious crimes. At the meeting, the FBI's chief of digital evidence stressed that investigators don't want the content of electronic communications, merely the origin and destination data.
