The project will be rolled out within the next four weeks, according to the chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India, and will be based on biometrics and usable anywhere in the country. But critics say the project violates privacy, doesn't have the proper oversight or legal framework and could expose citizens to data theft and abuse.
