Victoria Privacy Commissioner Helen Versey said the project would be bound by the Information Privacy Act because it was contracted to perform work by the state, which means only information relevant to employees' performance of their job duties could be gathered and no information could be shared with third parties. Privacy law experts noted that courts could fine employers up to $100,000 for improperly gathering information about employees.
