The Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) says that Verizon Wireless' recent inclusion of increasing amounts of consumer data in marketing reports is unfair and deceptive, MediaPost News reports. EPIC has filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) stating that after consumers entered into long-term contracts with Verizon Wireless, "the company changed its data use and disclosure practices, making the personal information of its customers more widely available to others." Verizon is disputing EPIC's claims, however. EPIC is asking the FTC to investigate and require Verizon to obtain customers' opt-in consent.
