In January 2011, NASA employees lost a Supreme Court case against the agency claiming its background checks violated privacy rights. This month, some of those employees received a letter warning them that a data breach at the agency may have exposed their personal information, The New York Times reports. The Government Accountability Office says NASA has experienced “numerous cyberattacks” in recent years and in 2009 issued a report titled “NASA Needs to Remedy Vulnerabilities in Key Networks,” the report states. Meanwhile, the UK’s Civil Service Sports Club is notifying more than 100,000 British civil servants of a breach that occurred two years ago and may have resulted in the theft of their personal information.
