The Second International Workshop on Privacy and Security in Online Social Media is calling for papers.

The workshop, to be held in Rio, Brazil, on May 14 and chaired by Prof. Ponnurangam Kumaraguru and Prof. Virgilo Almeida, aims to create a platform to “discuss latest and upcoming issues, trends and cutting-edge research approaching in security and privacy in online social media and complex networked systems,” as well as to bring together researchers working on such topics to find overlaps.

Conference themes include information privacy disclosure; collateral damage due to data leaks; location-based services; curbing malware, phishing and botnets; user behavior towards privacy in online social media, and privacy-enhancing technologies.

“With an increase in the usage of the Internet, there has been an exponential increase in the use of online social media on the Internet…However widely used, there is a lack of understanding of privacy and security issues on online media,” states the conference’s site. “It is critical to detect security threats and defend privacy through real-time and scalable systems. Since there are no legal boundaries for social media, it is important to study the problem from an international perspective, too.”

Abstract submissions are due February 22, and manuscripts are due February 25. Acceptance notifications will be sent March 13.
