The New York Times reports on the release of a new technology that provides encryption for smartphone users. Phil Zimmermann, “widely considered the godfather of encryption software,” has introduced Silent Circle, which allows users to make encrypted phone calls, send encrypted texts and conduct videoconferencing. Zimmermann’s company has planted its servers in Canada, known to have stronger privacy laws than the U.S. or the EU, the report states.
