When Harriet Pearson, CIPP/US, was appointed to the position of IBM’s first chief privacy officer in 2000, she didn’t have much company. Few organizations had privacy officers. But as the regulatory landscape on privacy and data protection has shifted, the number of privacy professionals has increased dramatically, DataInformed reports. Pearson, now a partner at Hogan Lovells, says in its infancy, the profession focused mainly on complying with healthcare and other regulations, but now, “It’s all about the data,” which brings a new set of questions.
