Edmonton Journal reports the Alberta government has initiated its review of the province’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). The review will be conducted by the Standing Committee on Families and Communities, the report states, noting the law is slated for automatic review beginning on July 1 and then every six years. PIPA “will go to a legislative committee this fall, they’ll make recommendations that come back to the ministry,” Service Alberta Minister Deron Bilous said. “It’s a way to keep the (law) current and relevant and to ensure that we’re protecting Albertans’ privacy.” Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act has been under review since 2012, the report states.
