At the Mobile World Congress (MWC), European Commission Vice President for the Digital Single Market Andrus Ansip reaffirmed the EU’s “tough stance on anticompetitive practices, data protection and tax avoidance,” The New York Times reports. Also at the MWC, The Irish Times reports, U.S. Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler discussed the need for an Internet referee, saying “if the Internet is the most powerful and pervasive platform in this history of the planet, which I believe it is, can it exist without a referee?” And Forbes reports on the evolution of privacy and call encryption while ZDNet looks at the efforts by MWC attendees “to balance consumers' right to privacy with the industry's hunger for data.”
