This month, Connecticut became the 21st state to enact a social media privacy law, The Wall Street Journal reports. Without one federal privacy law, companies with employees across multiple states are required to stay abreast of which states require what. “There’s model legislation that to some extent has been followed, so most of these laws are similar, but they are not alike,” said attorney Howard Mavity. Most important for companies, Mavity said, is to know under which circumstances they are allowed to access employees’ social media accounts. (Registration may be required to access this story.)
