Activist Max Schrems’ suit alleging that Facebook’s “terms of service and data collection policies violate EU law and their consumer rights” was dismissed by Vienna District Court, which cited lack of jurisdiction and a blurring of personal and professional use of the service, The Irish Times reports. “It is clear that the complainant is using the enormous media interest in his case against Facebook ... for the sales of his book and his career, even if it was credible that this is a social-societal concern for the complainant,” said Judge Margot Slunsky-Jost. The Wall Street Journal has called the dismissal “a boon for Facebook.” Schrems said he “will go to a higher court … The court is simply passing the hot potato on.”
