The National Security Agency (NSA) antidote for a Snowden-eqsue sequel of revealed information could be Guardtime’s Black Lantern, a program based on the technology behind Bitcoin, or “blockchain,” which prohibits users from tampering with files, Wired reports. “It keeps honest people honest,” said Guardtime CTO Matt Johnson. “It makes it impossible for them to lie.” The irony, which the report is quick to illustrate, is the impetus for blockchain was a desire to have a program that protected one from government surveillance. “Bitcoin proponents praise the blockchain as a way for citizens to hide their online tracks from the government, but Guardtime shows how the same technology could be used as a tool for surveillance,” the report states.
