Officials say the names and personal information of thousands of Chicago Public Schools students were inadvertently provided to five potential vendors earlier this year, NBC reports. The district became aware of the incident March 24 and contacted five organizations that were given the information of 4,000 students. Social Security numbers were not provided, the report states, and the vendors say the information has been destroyed. Meanwhile, several hospitals in New York have experienced breaches because of a third-party medical billing company, and new research suggests most companies take more than six months to detect data breaches.
