In this week’s Privacy Tracker legislative roundup, read about the UN’s announcement that government surveillance is “almost certainly illegal,” possible implications of Russia’s new Internet laws and concerns over whether U.S. Veterans Affairs is using HIPAA against whistleblowers. Also, on the heels of the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee’s passing of the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA), privacy groups demanded that President Barack Obama veto it if it gets to his desk, and Treasury Secretary Jack Lew called for a strong cybersecurity law without mentioning CISA.
