France's data protection authority, the CNIL, will begin auditing websites in October, and for the first time ever, will be able to do so remotely. “Cookie consent is a key area of attention and is back on the worry list of many organizations,” said Hogan Lovells Partner Eduardo Ustaran, CIPP/E. Are businesses cutting corners with their cookie policies? “That will be revealed soon,” Ustaran said, adding in his analysis, “Indeed, people are cutting corners.” Next month, the CNIL will initiate its “Cookie Sweep Days” in an effort to get a global view of privacy issues around the use of cookies and share the results with other data protection authorities.
