Fourteen months after President Barack Obama’s plan for the Enhanced Cybersecurity Services program, red-tape is preventing its success, Bloomberg reports. Sixteen companies have been tentatively approved to participate in the plan, which was created in 2012 and allowed AT&T and CenturyLink to use classified computer-threat data to sell security services to a list of approved companies that operate critical infrastructure. An executive order signed in 2013 expanded the program; now, the Department of Homeland Security has approved 40 companies that operate vital computer networks to participate—and there are thousands more that could potentially qualify. Experts say the process should be expedited.
