Computerworld reports on President Barack Obama’s National Broadband Plan, now nearly four years old, and how it did not originally include privacy protection standards. “A big thing we were not able to do was about data security and privacy,” said one of the plan’s strategists and authors, Blair Levin. “The whole area of personal privacy is huge,” he added. “If the plan were redone, it would focus a lot more on that. Even Singapore is way ahead of us on a lot of that.” Levin said privacy deserves its own chapter in the plan, which aims to bring a standard quality of broadband connection to homes, schools, libraries and businesses.
