According to a report by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the Data Security and Breach Notification Act of 2015, if passed, would bring in $9 million over the next 10 years and cost $1 million to implement over the next five. FierceGovernmentIT reports that the estimate is based on the bill being enacted by the end of the fiscal year. Revenues would be a result of penalties paid by businesses that fail to comply with the bill’s data protection and breach notification requirements. Under the bill, the Federal Trade Commission would be responsible for enforcement, and so would need two more employees at $260,000.
