A controversial recommendation “for government to help political parties keep track of who has voted both during and after an election,” has BC Privacy Commissioner Elizabeth Denham concerned, The Vancouver Sun reports. The Election Amendment Act or Bill 20 “would oblige Elections BC to disclose to all candidates the names of those who voted in the advance polls and on election day,” the report states. Denham has called on the government to withdraw the provision, noting her concerns that “Elections BC would be disclosing personal information that is likely to be linked with other information in political party databases and elsewhere.” Meanwhile, Saanich Mayor Richard Atwell has put forward a motion to implement Denham’s recommendations “following her investigation into the installation of Spector 360 on municipal computers.”
