The Department of Homeland Security’s Privacy Office has released its 2014 Annual Report to Congress, which includes highlights of such accomplishments as its Fair Information Practice Principles becoming “the privacy policy touchstone” for all federal agencies, its impact assessment official guidance becoming a model for agencies and foreign countries and its publishing of a directive on the department’s use of social media as a standard for other agencies’ use. The office will prioritize assessing new systems and programs to develop robust privacy protections; expand its service as a consultation organization and increase its engagement with the privacy community, among others.
