It’s been a busy week for the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), announcing its largest-ever enforcement action and joining the Global Privacy Enforcement Network (GPEN). Jedidiah Bracy, CIPP/US, CIPP/E, notes in this post for Privacy Perspectives that Travis LeBlanc, new enforcement head for the FCC, has plenty of privacy bona fides from his days in the California AG’s office, and takes a look at what we might expect in the future from what could be an increasingly aggressive regulator. As Hogan Lovells Partner Christopher Wolf put it: “I think you’re going to see more cooperation and cross-jurisdiction between these two agencies … Just because a company is directly regulated by the FCC does not mean all of its business activities are exempt from FTC scrutiny.” Is there a little friendly competition brewing as well?
