Attorneys general in as many as three U.S. states; the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, and European officials—including the UK Information Commissioner’s Office—will investigate the data breach affecting nearly 100 million eBay users worldwide, TIME reports. “The magnitude of the reported eBay data breach could be of historic proportions, and my office is part of a group of other attorneys general in the country investigating the matter,” Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi said. UK Information Commissioner Christopher Graham said, “We’re certainly looking at the situation … We have to work with colleagues in Luxembourg where eBay is based for European purposes,” adding, “We were in touch with the Luxembourg data protection authority yesterday.” Meanwhile, Wired reports on how the eBay response “demonstrates how not to respond to a huge data breach.”
