With the IAPP Europe Data Protection Congress now just about one month away,  there are some exciting new additions to this program that already promised a full schedule of privacy education, discussion and networking opportunities.

As we reported a few weeks back, the CIPT is coming to Europe for the first time during the Data Protection Congress, and just announced, we’ve added another session to our slate of preconference workshops and will also be offering a special edition of the Privacy Platform in Brussels.

So first up, what is the Privacy Platform? Well, on Wednesday, November 19, Dutch MEP Sophie in’t Veld will moderate a panel featuring Google Global Privacy Counsel Peter Fleischer, EDRi Executive Director Joe McNamee and Joaquín Muñoz Rodríguez, the attorney for the plaintiff in the now-historic Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) case that resulted in the so-called “right to be forgotten” decision.

For this edition of the Privacy Platform, the focus will be on data subjects' right to request data controllers delete their personal data in certain circumstances and on the right-to-be-forgotten developments in the context of the current revision of the EU’s data protection legislation. The Privacy Platform panel will discuss the implications of the CJEU ruling not only in terms of the privacy of data subjects but also the impact on search engines and freedom of expression.

And while the Privacy Platform and the first day of main conference programming are both on November 19, there are three good reasons to register for the Data Protection Congress Preconference Day: our previously announced workshops “The Challenges of Building a Global Privacy Programme” and “Internet of Things, Data Protection and Security: What Are the Legal Challenges and How Do We Overcome Them?” and our new preconference offering, “How To Perform an Effective and Efficient Data Protection Audit in a Big Data Environment.”

In this new preconference addition programmed by ISACA Belgium, Chief Audit Executive at Smals vzw and ISACA Belgium President Marc Vael and Cranium Founder and Data Protection Institute Cofounder Bavo Van den Heuvel, CIPP/E, CIPM, will offer an interactive workshop on performing privacy audits that will include, among other resources and takeaways, anonymous audit reports on how to perform a privacy audit and what the executive management and the board of directors expect from such reports.
