Xerox has developed a system called Automated Vehicle Occupancy Detection aimed at stopping the misuse of carpool lanes, I4U reports, and, “The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) raises a privacy red flag on this technology.” The system can identify the number of occupants per vehicle with 95-percent accuracy—even at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour, and the quality of the video allows those passengers to be identified, the report states. “In short,” the EFF cautions, “the technology is looking at your image, the image of the people you're with, your location and your license plate.”
