A recent hearing organized by the European Parliament’s civil liberties committee featured Richard Allan, director for public policy for Facebook in Europe, who discussed the number of demands for data by EU governments, The New York Times reports. Allan said Facebook received 8,500 requests from the EU on 10,000 user accounts during the first six months of 2013. By comparison, U.S. officials made 12,000 requests for data on as many as 21,000 user accounts. Meanwhile, CIO reports on the nuances of Facebook’s updated data use policy and statement of rights and responsibilities. And a new poll indicates four out of five people have changed the privacy settings on their social media accounts, most within the last six months.
