Though many assume Facebook will gobble up and share their data and not offer privacy options unless it absolutely has to, the social network is testing a new privacy measure this week that suggests otherwise, writes Will Oremus for Slate. The “privacy checkup” comes in the form of a small blue “friendly privacy dinosaur” in a pop-up box that appears one time per user before they post something publicly on their timeline, ensuring they aren’t sharing with a wider audience than intended. Facebook also announced this week that it is buying virtual reality gaming company Oculus, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg saying, “Oculus has the chance to create the most social platform ever and change the way we work, play and communicate.”
