Slate reports on a new feature unveiled by Facebook that allows parents to use a specific tag to collect their baby photos to share with selected friends and family members. Users explicitly identify their relationships in their profile and then create an online scrapbook. “Parents get a virtual shoebox to hold their baby pictures, and Facebook gains more data on how its users are connected to one another,” the report states, adding, “Children whose parents create scrapbooks don’t simply inherit a digital identity; they inherit a digital identity within Facebook.” Dan Barak, the creator of Scrapbook said, “Photos of my son are the most important pictures my wife and I will ever take. It’s important to us that we’re in control of these photos.”
