Fusion reports on the ways fitness trackers may work in unintended ways. In March, a Florida woman traveled to Lancaster, PA, and stayed at her boss’s home. Police were called to the home and found overturned furniture, a knife and a bottle of vodka. The woman claimed she’d been sleeping and had been sexually assaulted by a man in his 30s who was wearing boots. But she was wearing her Fitbit at the time, and when police found it in a hallway and downloaded its activity, it became a witness against her. The device indicated the woman was awake and walking around at the time she claimed she was sleeping.
