Google has been sued for scanning and collecting student data in its Apps for Education program and using the data to build profiles of the students, International Business Times reports. The lawsuit is currently making its way through a federal court in California and is represented by the Electronic Privacy Information Center. The group argues the practice violates the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and may violate federal and state wiretap laws. Meanwhile, in a separate case, a federal judge has denied a request to combine multiple privacy complaints against Google into one class-action lawsuit. Though the ruling does not settle the dispute, it is a setback for the plaintiffs.
