China plans to roll out a citizen-rating system, something that’s been in the works for years. A recent document circulated through various levels of government details the six-year rollout of the big data program. The government hopes to have every adult in China assigned a credit code and a government-issued identity card by 2020 to hold all citizens accountable for financial and moral choices. Unlike in other parts of the world, where technology executives have denied knowledge of government data-mining, “China wants its citizens to know they are being watched and that their standing in society will be affected by their behavior,” International Business Times reports.
