The Global Privacy Enforcement Network (GPEN) has released its annual report for 2014. The report highlights increased levels of participation, including “substantial enhancements to the online cooperation platform,” the addition of 15 more authorities to GPEN—including new members from Africa, Asia and Latin America—and a “major cooperative sweep” that examined the privacy practices of more than 1,200 online mobile apps. GPEN’s announcement of this year’s report features insights from members of the GPEN Committee, which includes authorities from Canada, Israel, New Zealand, the UK and the U.S. “The global nature of the digital economy and the rapid technological developments raise data protection challenges that require global enforcement partnerships,” said the Israeli Law, Information and Technology Authority’s Alon Bachar.
