Following the data breach at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) uncovered last month, IRS Commissioner John Koskinen has said the theft of more than 100,000 taxpayers’ personal information was not related to his agency’s budget crunch, Government Executive reports. But J. Russell George, the treasury inspector general for tax administration, told the Senate Finance Committee if the IRS had implemented recommendations made on security upgrades, it would have been “much more difficult” for hackers to infiltrate.
