Olivier Proust writes for Privacy Tracker about the “burdensome exercise” that is the data protection authority (DPA) notification, explaining that “notification procedures are not harmonized in Europe” and it’s not just Europe that requires them—many Latin American and African nations do, too. With the proposed EU Data Protection Regulation, notification of data processing activities in Europe may be in peril, but Proust writes if you’re asking whether you should go through the trouble, the answer is yes: “Doing so is a necessary component of any global privacy compliance project. It requires organizations to strategize their processing operations and to prioritize the jurisdictions in which they are developing their business.”
