The National Commission of Audit is calling for government agencies to improve the use of Big Data and analytics “to boost everything from fraud detection to policy development,” The Australian reports. “In what could lead to a bonanza for IT firms with a Big Data story,” the report states, the commission is recommending “major departments be compelled to develop plans to maximise use of their own data and accelerate the publishing of anonymised data for general use.” The commission’s report states it wants the government to “do more to open access to its administrative data holdings, including medical data and welfare and social data.” (Registration may be required to access this story.)
