Nebraska Medicine’s mHealth technology research project is using Apple Watch and related apps to study “the impact of remote health monitoring of chronically ill patients,” FierceMobile Healthcare reports. The $10 million project uses an Apple Watch-based app that allows patients and physicians to communicate and access data like test results and appointment information. "We want to push the envelope, but we want to do it in a way that is very, very safe, so we haven't turned on every feature and we haven't enabled every device to communicate with our electronic medical record," said Chief Transformation Officer Michael Ash. "We are looking at each area, each app and even each vendor to make sure they are meeting HIPAA requirements and that they are demonstrating the ability to securely transmit their information back and forth."
