I cannot help but dedicate this week’s short letter to a big change that happened here at the IAPP this week. In case you haven’t noticed, we have a brand new website! Aside from looking great and being much easier to navigate and use—don’t take my word for it; take a look yourselves—the new site truly embodies the global nature of the IAPP. Former IAPP Board of Directors Chairman Bojana Bellamy, CIPP/E, used to say her goal as chairman was to put “the ‘I’ in IAPP” by facilitating the development of its international identity.

The IAPP—and IAPP Europe in particular—has grown by leaps and bounds since. We now count more than 16,000 members globally with more than 2,000 on this side of the pond. At the risk of being cheesy, I must say I feel privileged to be part of such a remarkable expansion. The new website reflects our transformation perfectly: It no longer “separates” European members from U.S. members, or any other members. As the data-driven economy that we live in has no borders, why should we?

Sure enough, there will always be things that us Europeans are particularly proud of. Didn’t we “invent” privacy? As the managing director for IAPP Europe, I am particularly proud of our flagship European event, the Data Protection Congress, whose webpage we inaugurated with the launch of the new website. This year’s Congress is shaping up to be the biggest and most inspiring yet—part of the programme and some of the confirmed keynote speakers are already online, but we still have a few aces up our sleeves, so stay tuned!

In the meantime, do check our new website out and let us know if you like it.
