It has certainly been anything but a quiet week for privacy here in Europe, and as topics like the regulation and the new commissioners continue to make headlines, I find myself looking forward to November and our IAPP Europe Data Protection Congress as an opportunity to gather with our colleagues from here in the EU and across the globe to discuss these and other emerging issues and hear from some of the top minds in privacy and data protection.

Just this week, in fact, we added two new sessions to the Congress:  “Cybersecurity: The Problem and the Solutions” and “Quantified Self and Potential Regulatory Reform.” Visit our website for more information on these and other breakout sessions for this year’s event.

As my colleague Jennifer Saunders, CIPP/US, wrote last week for The Privacy Advisor, IAPP CIPT training is coming to the EU for the first time in conjunction with this year's Congress. The CIPT is described as the “how” of privacy technology and was launched this year to meet the need of securing data privacy at all stages of IT product and service lifecycles. All the details on training and testing for this certification in Brussels is available here.

And, of course, we have preconference workshops to provide you with additional privacy education on “The Challenges of Building a Global Privacy Programme” and “Internet of Things, Data Protection and Security: What are the Legal Challenges, and How Do We Overcome Them?

And while we're on the topic of upcoming events, the Call for Speakers for April's IAPP Europe Data Protection Intensive ends soon. If you are interested in submitting a proposal, please visit our website here. The deadline is fast-approaching on 7 October.

Enjoy catching up on this week’s headlines below, and I look forward to seeing you in Brussels next month!
