For the first time in more than 12 years, major cybersecurity bills have become law after President Barack Obama signed five of them on Thursday, GovInfoSecurity reports. The five new bills include the Federal Information Security Modernization Act, the Homeland Security Workforce Assessment Act, the Cybersecurity Workforce Assessment Act, the National Cybersecurity Protection Act and the Cybersecurity Enhancement Act. Meanwhile, in a column for The Hill, John Breyault opines that Congress must make data protection a priority in the new session. “The data security threat to our economy is real and demands action,” he writes, adding, “Truly stemming the tide of online crime will require a comprehensive approach that brings together consumers, businesses and the government in a common drive for solutions.”
