Computerweekly reports the Open Data Institute (ODI) is calling for the creation of a UK chief data officer in its Open Data Roadmap for 2015. “The ODI believes that open data is the best way to tackle some of the major challenges the UK will face in the first half this century,” the report states. Meanwhile, Out-Law.com reports on the government’s plans to “change privacy laws to make it easier for telecoms providers to send customers text messages on behalf of the emergency services that would warn them about public emergencies.” And, Dame Wendy Hall comments on MPs being unequipped “to deal with technology” and “too reliant on the web firms they are checking on,” BBC News reports.
