The Online Trust Alliance (OTA) has announced it is leading an initiative to develop a security, privacy and sustainability trust framework for Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The framework aims to provide clarity and confidence to consumers and will initially focus on connected home and wearable/fitness technologies, according to a press release. OTA hopes to use the framework as the basis for a potential certification program for IoT devices and their manufacturers. OTA’s Craig Spiezle said because of the rapid development of IoT products on the market “we must ensure that security and privacy best practices are integrated to maximize consumer protection.” A working group meeting is scheduled for June 16.
