The Office of the Privacy Commissioner (OPC) has completed its investigation of Health Canada's privacy breach that affected 40,000 licensees of the Marihuana Medical Access Program (MMAP) and determined “Health Canada violated federal privacy laws,” CNW reports. The incident occurred in 2013 when Health Canada sent written notices to the individuals outlining changes to the MMAP with the words “Health Canada—Marihuana Medical Access Program" as part of the return address, and several hundred of those affected complained to the OPC. A lawsuit against the government has been filed. Meanwhile, CBC News reports on a pharmacist who "inappropriately accessed" individuals’ personal health information.
