Venmo, a mobile payments app that allows users to quickly send cash directly to friends’ bank accounts, has been criticized for taking a lackadaisical approach to users’ security and “seems to have made little effort to improve it,” The New York Times reports. Back in July, Venmo was ordered by California regulators to establish companywide best practices and programs around user privacy, security, customer service and fraud loss management, the report states. The order required the company to respond to more than 20 unsafe practices within 60 days. While Venmo said the issues have been remediated, regulators say it’s a work in progress.
